The Recipe
3 cups organic Coconut Oil
1 cup organic Avocado Oil (this can be substituted for any other plant derived oil that is in liquid form, such as Grape Seed or Jojoba)
20-30 drops Young Living Essential Oil (this is where you can get creative, use the oil or oils you love)
Melt down your coconut oil. You can do this by transferring it to a stainless steel or glass bowl and then placing the bowl into the sink filled with hot water.
Step Two:
Once your coconut oil is in liquid state, take the bowl out of the hot water and mix in your avocado oil.
Step Three:
Add your essential oils to the mixture. I only use Young Living Essential Oils for all of my recipes and you can clic to find out why. Feel free to use as much or a little of the essential oil, until you achieve the fragrance strength y k here ou like. I also like to use different oils each time I make this body butter. Lavender and Joy are some of my favorites, but I have also made a Valor and Frankincense blend, and a Ylang Ylang and Jasmine blend (which is quite exotic!), and many others.
Set your oil mixture aside to harden. This is where you have to be a little patient, you can put it in the fridge to speed up the process (or outside if its cold, the picture shows two mixtures cooling because I was making to separate scents). Wait until its about 75% hardened but this is not an exact science here.
Transfer the semi-hardened oil mixture to a stand mixer or get a hand mixer ready. You may have to use a spatula to get some of the hardened oil mixture off the sides of the bowl.
Turn the mixer to high to whip the mixture to a moose. After a about a minute or two it will whip up. If you are not getting the moose consistency you may have not allowed it to harden enough so set it to the side for a few more minutes and try again.
Step Seven:
Now scoop some of the moose into glass jars, stick a label on there and you're all set! I use this body body every day and it makes great gifts as well.
